Tool Book “A Methodology for Bringing Contemporary Poetry in the Classrooms”

In today’s world, poetry has the power to connect us and deepen our understanding of our lives and the world around us. Yet, in schools, contemporary poetry remains underrepresented.

Project Poets of Today – Voices of Tomorrow was created to change that. Supported by the European Union, this project brings together poets, teachers, and students from across Europe with a single purpose: to bring contemporary poetry into schools and introduce poets as relatable, inspiring role models for students.

This initiative is funded by the European Union, which recognizes the vital role of art and education in shaping a unified, culturally diverse Europe. Through its support, the EU has made it possible for poets and teachers from different countries to work together, share their methods, and create new opportunities for students to experience the beauty and relevance of poetry in their own languages. By supporting projects like Poets of Today – Voices of Tomorrow, the EU encourages cross-border collaboration and helps ensure that young people in every part of Europe can access and enjoy the arts as a shared cultural heritage.

This book is the result of that collaboration. It offers a clear and practical guide for teachers, filled with strategies for presenting contemporary poetry to young people. Developed through months of planning, workshops, and real-world testing, the methods in this book transform classrooms into spaces where poetry is more than just words on a page—it becomes an experience. Through continued reading and engagement, students learn to overcome any fear of poetry and make it a part of their everyday lives.
