GreenCCIrcle project partners meeting in Vilnius

tags:

These were two extremely inspiring days organised as part of the Green CCIrcle project partners’ meeting in Vilnius (28-29 May 2025). At the headquarters of the Faculty of Creative Industries at the Technical University, we worked on tools useful for the green transition in the cultural and creative industries.

We discussed how culture and art shape our identity, teach sensitivity and allow us to better understand the world. Art develops the imagination, inspires creative thinking and opens up a diversity of perspectives. Culture protects the heritage of the past and helps to preserve traditions that connect generations.

However, every event, exhibition, film production, concert or institutional activity involves the use of energy, transport, consumption of materials and production of waste, and therefore leaves an environmental footprint. This is why the green transition in the cultural and creative sectors is so important – to protect natural resources, build the resilience of cultural institutions and creators in difficult times, and increase attractiveness and innovation. Finally, to create space for dialogue, shared vision and implementation of new solutions. In this sense, the cultural and creative sectors are not only following the green transition, but can become its leader and inspirer.

During the event, an inspiring meeting was held with the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Vaida Asakavičiūtė, and vice-dean Angelė Tamulevičiūtė-Šekštelienė.

We devoted a lot of time to the results of the project:

GreenCCIrcle Academy – an online educational platform. It offers practical courses, materials and inspiration that show, step by step, how to implement green solutions in cultural and creative activities. It was created on the basis of a series of studies analysing gaps in green, digital and entrepreneurial skills in the cultural and creative sector.

Green Tool – an interactive tool that helps organisations assess their environmental impact and find specific ways to reduce it.

Living Labs – meetings and co-creation laboratories where representatives of culture, science, business and administration work together to find new, innovative ideas and sustainable solutions to local problems in the cultural and creative sector.

GreenCCIrcle is a response to EU priorities such as the European Green Deal, the circular economy and the objectives of the EU Strategy for the Creative Sector. The project is co-financed by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Alliances for Innovation Programme.

The project is implemented by a consortium: Materahub (Italy), The European Federation for Creative Economy (Creative Fed), Creative Industry Košice (Slovakia), Fondazione Università Ca’ Foscari (Italy), Baltic Film & Creative Tech Cluster (Lithuania), Julie’s Bicycle Europe (Ireland), XAMK – South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Finland), The Sustainable Design and Materials Lab (DiMa) of the Estonian Academy of Arts (Estonia), Institute for the Promotion of Development and Training (Spain) and the ARTeria Foundation from Poland.
